When Bloggers Meet {Bailey’s Visit}

IMG_8829-1

One of my absolute favorite things about blogging is the awesome people you get to “meet.” You connect with other bloggers and become friends over time. It’s an awesome treat when you are able to actually meet them in person! This has happened three times now, and I can’t wait to see where and who God leads my footsteps to next!

It all started a few years ago when I randomly ran into fellow military wife and blogger, Kaylee, of “Max & Kaylee” at church. Yes, at church! I had been following her blog for a while and had no idea we were stationed in the same area, let alone attended the same church. To be fair, the church we attended was rather large and held 4 different services. So, running into each other would have already been a slim occurrence. But, one morning when we were both dropping off our kiddos at the nursery, I saw Kaylee and immediately knew I recognized her but couldn’t remember why. It bugged me through the entire church service, and then a lightbulb went on! When we went back to pick up our children, I saw her again and quickly introduced myself. We never got a chance to get together beyond that, but it was so awesome to run into another blogger whom I felt like I knew before even meeting in person.

The second person was Dana of “DB.” Dana actually no longer keeps up with blogging, as far as I know, but I’m so incredibly thankful for the friendship that sprouted between us when she was blogging! Dana is a former Marine wife, and we met through the blog world while her husband was still in the Marine Corps. There was sheer joy when we found out that they would be stationed in the same area as us! Months after they arrived, Dana invited me to a military wives’ get-together. The friendship that we developed in the blogging world rapidly seeped into reality! The next few years were some that I’ll cherish for the rest of my life. Dana quickly became a very dear friend. We shared heartaches, struggles, tears, and lots of laughs! Her friendship helped me get through a lot of very rough times. It was a very tearful goodbye when she moved. Though they are now in another state, she and I still try to stay in contact (and she hopes to visit us when we move to California)! Dana is such a talented woman! She now has her own traveling hair and makeup business and is an incredible photographer! She did photos for me on a couple different occasions, including glamour photos (for which she did my hair and makeup), Joshua’s gender reveal party, and my maternity photo shoot for my pregnancy with Joshua (also did my hair and makeup for that).

If you’ve been keeping up with me on Instagram (and a bit on the blog), then you’ll remember me mentioning Bailey from “Becoming Bailey” coming for a visit. I honestly don’t remember when Bailey and I became connected through blogging, but it was about two years ago. You honestly would think we wouldn’t have anything in common, considering she was still a college student at the time (now graduated), single, and didn’t really have any relation to the military. But, there was one big thing we had in common and that was a love for the Lord. It is so amazing how strong the bond of Christ can be! I also think she reminded me a lot of one of my best friends, which made me want to reach out to her. Over time, we developed a friendship. Even when I had to take a long break from blogging because of my struggles with postpartum depression,  she emailed me to see how I was doing. She is truly a sweetheart!

Fast-forward to a few months ago . . . Bailey was just having a rough time overall and desperately needed a break from life. I went on a whim and invited her to come for a visit. I never anticipated that she would agree! About a month later, she was on a plane and headed here. We all were so excited! I felt like I was picking up an old friend from the airport. I was afraid that things would be awkward at first, but they weren’t at all!

At the Naval Hospital right after picking her up from the airport because I needed to pick up some prescriptions.

Bailey stayed for an extended weekend and actually got to stay for an extra night due to a flight cancellation! What’s funny about that is that she had even joked about wanting her flight to be cancelled, even if it was due to maintenance or something. Sure enough, about an hour later she got a phone call, saying her flight was cancelled due to maintenance. It was pretty much a twilight zone moment. lol! I can’t tell you how thankful I was that her flight got cancelled. (She was also beaming for hours.) That extra time allowed us to get in a last-minute, late-night run to Krispy Kreme where we spent hours talking about family and faith. It was a deep conversation that was so enriching to my soul!

The whole weekend that she was here was filled with tons of fun! I got to show her around the main base and she braved the commissary with the boys and me. (She’s a very brave soul!) We got to spend some kid-free time at the beach as well. Let me tell you, that was amazing! It had been a little over 4 years since I had gone to the beach without kids. I had forgotten how wonderful the beach could be!

Also, while she was here, I took a day to do a photo shoot of her. I did her hair and makeup beforehand as well. That day was so much fun, filled with lots of great conversation and several laughs! I’ll do a full-fledge post of her photo shoot later on, but here are a few sneak peek shots.

Our family already misses Bailey, and the boys can’t stop talking about her. We’re looking forward to hopefully seeing her again after we move to California! Bailey is such a sweet, God-honoring girl. I hope she ends up with a lucky man soon. She will be a wonderful wife to someone!

Trying out my mother-in-law's selfie stick. Yeah, pretty sure I want one now. lol!
